LAT is cleaved proteolitically into 2 fragments which reassociate upon binding an agonist and upon reassociation cause release of calcium from intracellular stores and massive release of neurotransmitter. Disease LAT-3 variant confers susceptibility to ADHD and predicts effectiveness of stimulant medication[2].
