Ribosomal protein S4 (RPS4) is one of the 22 proteins which belong to the of the bacterial ribosome. It binds to the 16S RRNA. Mutations in RPS4 are known to increase translational error frequency. In archaea the protein is named S4E or S4P. In eukaryotes it is named S9. The images at the left and at the right correspond to one representative RPS4, i.e. the crystal structure of Ribosomal protein S4 from Thermus thermophilus (2zm6, chain D).
