FunctionBlue copper oxidase CueO (CueO) or laccase CueO is an E. coli enzyme which catalyzes the conversion of Cu+1 to Cu+2 resulting in the detoxification of copper by the prevention of its uptake into the cytoplasm.[1] RelevanceCueO is involved in prevention of oxidative damage in the periplasm. Structural highlightsThe Cu moieties (Cu-O-Cu and Cu+2) are coordinated by at least 2 histidine residues: Cu and Cu-O-Cu and single Cu.[2] 3D structures of blue copper oxidase CueOBlue copper oxidase CueO 3D structures
