FhuA is the E. coli outer membrane transporter of ferrichrome and is the receptor of some phages and colicin M. FhuD is the E. coli receptor of ferric hydroxamate. For more details see FhuD. FhuE is the E. coli receptor of ferric coprogen and ferric-rhodotorulic acid. FoxA is the Pseudomonas ferrioxamine receptor . Disease Haemophilus parasuis uses Fhu to capture iron and is the cause of the Glasser disease in pigs. Structural highlights Ferrichrome includes 3 non-standard residues N-acetyl-N-hydroxy-L-ornithine (in cyan) and contains Fe atom. The aromatic binding pocket binds the ferrichrome (Hydrophobic, Polar).
