IMPs are expressed mainly in embryogenesis. Relevance IMPs are highly associated with cancer metastasis and the expression of oncogenic factors. IMP1 is protumorigenic factor in liver carcinogenesis. IMP2 is overexpressed and predicts poor prognosis in pancreatic cancer. IMP3 predicts poor prognosis for colorectal adenocarcinoma. Structural highlights IMPs contain 2 RNA-binding regions, The N-terminal RRM12 and the C-terminal KH domains. The 3D structure of the complex between IMP3 RRM12 domain and the RNA tetranucleotide CCCC shows the π-π stacking of RNA with Phe and Tyr side-chains of IMP3.
