| Function
Interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL1RA) is a member of the interleukin-1 (IL1) cytokine family. IL1RA inhibits the activity of IL1, IL1A and IL1B. IL1RA modulates the activity of IL1-related immune and inflammatory responses. IL1RA binds to the IL1 receptor on the cell surface[1].
Relevance
IL1RA (or anakinra) is used as a drug in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis[2]. IL36RA mutations lead to unregulated secretion of inflammatory cytokines and generalized pustular psoriasis[3].
