FunctionMethionine γ-lyase (MGL) degrades sulfur-containing amino acids to α-keto acids, ammonia and thiols. It catalyzes the interconversion of L-methionine and water to methanethiol, ammonia and 2-oxobutanoate. MGL uses pyridoxal phosphate (PLP) as cofactor[1].
