ContentsFunctionMevalonate kinase (MK) is the first enzyme in the mevalonate pathway which synthesizes sterol isoprenoids like cholesterol and non-sterol isoprenoids like ubiquinone[1]. MK catalyzes the conversion of mevalonate to 5-phosphomevalonate.
