Function
Prestin (Pre) is a motor protein found in the outer hair cells of the cochlea. It is essential for mammalian hearing. Pre is a membranal anion transporter[1]. See STAS domain of the SLC26 anion transporter prestin.
Disease
Mutations in Pre are associated with non-syndromic hearing loss[2].
Structural highlights
Pre C-terminal is mainly composed of a STAS (Sulfate Transporters and Anti-Sigma factor antagonist) domain[3].
