It binds to 16S RRNA and is one of the proteins responsible for the initiation of the 30S particle assembly. It crosslinks with tRNA at the A- and P-sites. Disease Mutations in mitochondrial RPS7 cause congenital sensorineural deafness and progressive hepatic and renal failure.
