| Function
Symplekin (SMPK) is a scaffold protein recruiting regulatory factors to the multimolecular complex involved in histone mRNA 3’-end processing. SMPK is involved in pre-mRNA polyadenylation. It enhances the activity of RNA polymerase II subunit A C terminal phosphatase (Ssu72)[1].
Relevance
Overexpression of SMPK promotes tumorigenicity in the colon[2].
