Cni is an immunity protein produced by ''E. coli'' to protect itself from the pore-forming action of [[Colicin N]], to avoid cell death, by inserting itself into the cell membrane and preventing the [[Colicin]] from doing the same. This prevents membrane depolarisation by the colicin, so the cell is not killed.
