The X-ray structure of the E2020-TcAChE complex shows that E2020 has a <scene name='1eve/E2020_close_up_with_84_279/6'>unique orientation</scene> along the active-site gorge, extending from the anionic subsite (<scene name='1eve/E2020_close_up_with_84lbld/3'>W84</scene>) of the active site, at the bottom, to the peripheral anionic site (<scene name='1eve/E2020_close_up_with_84_279lbld/2'>near W279</scene>), at the top, via aromatic stacking interactions with conserved aromatic acid residues. E2020 does not, however, interact directly with either the catalytic triad, or the 'oxyanion hole', but only <scene name='1eve/E20_interactionshown/3'>indirectly via solvent molecules</scene>.
I am an MD-PhD student at Harvard Medical School and MIT in Levi Garraway's lab and Aviv Regev's lab. I research and study the somatic genetics of cancer, particularly melanoma. Previously, I studied computational biology as a graduate student at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Eran Segal's lab focusing on transcriptional regulation in yeast. I'm one of the co-creators of Proteopedia -- this website, a 3D encyclopedia of protein structures -- together with Joel L. Sussman and Jaime Prilusky at the Weizmann Institute of Science.

What is Proteopedia?
Clear
Proteopedia is a free and collaborative, 3D encyclopedia of proteins, RNA, DNA, and their assemblies and interacting small molecules with emphasis on three-dimensional structure where relevant to function.

What if I am new here?
We invite you to browse Proteopedia and suggest you visit the Hemoglobin, Aricept-Acetylcholinesterase, and Serum Paraoxonase-1 by directed evolution pages to get a feel for Proteopedia.  Remember to click on the green links!

We encourage you to check out our site, take a look around, and edit pages freely (you need a user account to edit at the moment, so ask us for one).

To request a user account, email eran.hodis at weizmann.ac.il

These resources may help you familiarize yourself with the editing process.  Trust us, the editing process is very simple: All text is edited the same way that Wikipedia is edited, so it must be easy! And all scenes are created using our user-friendly Scene authoring tools.  Of course it helps to familiarize yourself with the site and how to go about editing, so check out these resources:
*A video capture of making a Proteopedia page in 4 minutes at http://www.proteopedia.org/Proteopedia.html
*A rough and temporary tutorial available at http://www.proteopedia.org/Proteopedia.html
*Help:Editing
*Scene authoring tools

Mission Statement
To collect and disseminate structural biological and biological knowledge about proteins, RNA, DNA, and their assemblies and interacting small molecules in a manner that is relevant and accessible to scientists of all the biological and chemical fields.

Goals for Proteopedia
* To maintain low barriers for contribution.
* To continue to develop the concept of tying text to three-dimensional, interactive images.
* To serve as a forum for scientists to share, retrieve and discuss information related to proteins, macromolecules, and small molecules and chemicals of interest.
