'''Catenins''' (CTN) are proteins which make complexes with cadherin. α-CTN links cadherin (CDH) and α-actinin, it is encoded by 3 genes: α-E-CTN (epithelial), α-T-CTN (membrane bound), and α-N-CTN (neuronal). β-CTN is a subunit of the cadherin complex. It contains armadillo repeats which are a pair of helices forming hairpin structure. γ-CTN (or plakoglobin) is a component of desmosomes and contains armadillo repeats. δ-CTN is expressed in the brain and contains 10 armadillo repeats. p120 CTN is another member of the CTN family.
