| Function
RmlC is an epimerase enzyme of the dTPD-rhamnose pathway. Deoxy-thymidine diphosphate (dTDP)-L-rhamnose is the precursor of L-rhamnose. L-rhamnose is a sugar component of microbial cell wall and is absent in human[1].
Relevance
Inhibitors of RmlC can serve as potential antimicrobial drugs[2].
Structural highlights
The active site of RmlC contains the reaction product DTDP-L-rhamnose[3]. Water molecules shown as red spheres.
