Practical Implications of IUPs

There is evidence that large intrinsically unstructured regions interferes with crystallization[1]. Oldfield et al., 2013[1], concluded:

The limited amount of intrinsic disorder present as missing density regions agrees with the idea that intrinsically disordered regions, particularly long disordered regions, inhibits successful determination of crystal structures, and suggests that avoiding or tailoring disordered proteins may aid in the determination of crystal structures. 3.2.
