FKB42_ARATH PPIases accelerate the folding of proteins. It catalyzes the cis-trans isomerization of proline imidic peptide bonds in oligopeptides (By similarity). Modulates the uptake of MRP substrates into the vacuole; reduces metolachlor-GS (MOC-GS) and enhances 17-beta-estradiol 17-(beta-D-glucuronide) (E(2)17betaG) uptake. Regulates cell elongation and orientation. Functions as a positive regulator of PGP1-mediated auxin transport. Confers drug modulation of PGP1 efflux activity as interaction with NPA or flavonol quercetin prevents its physical and functional interaction with PGP1. We present the three-dimensional structure of the N-terminal FK506-binding protein (FKBP)-like domain of the immunophilin FKBP42 from Arabidopsis thaliana. The data provide the structural background for the explanation of key functional properties reported previously.
