FunctionECTD_VIRSA Involved in the biosynthesis of ectoine ((S)-2-methyl-1,4,5,6-tetrahydropyrimidine-4-carboxylic acid) which is a highly soluble organic osmolyte, called compatible solute, use to avoid excessive water efflux, plasmolysis, molecular crowding of the cytoplasm, and cessation of growth in high salinity environments.
