Required for maintaining a heterochromatin chromatin structure at centromeres and subtelomeres by protecting these regions from euchromatin assembly. Enhances the nucleotide exchange activity of the pim1 guanine nucleotide exchange factor and abolishes histone-H3-mediated RanGAP inhibition.
