S-Adenosylmethionine synthetase complexed with SAM and PPNP

Structural highlights

1rg9 is a 4 chain structure with sequence from Escherichia coli. Full crystallographic information is available from OCA. For a guided tour on the structure components use FirstGlance.
Method:X-ray diffraction, Resolution 2.5Å
Ligands:K, MG, PPK, SAM
Resources:FirstGlance, OCA, PDBe, RCSB, PDBsum, ProSAT

Function

METK_ECOLI Catalyzes the formation of S-adenosylmethionine from methionine and ATP. The overall synthetic reaction is composed of two sequential steps, AdoMet formation and the subsequent tripolyphosphate hydrolysis which occurs prior to release of AdoMet from the enzyme. Is essential for growth.[HAMAP-Rule:MF_00086]
