Reaction catalyzed by NADPH thioredoxin reductase. Reducing equivalents from NADPH are transferred to the flavin processes cofactor, then to the enzyme disulfide and finally to the disulfide (Cys135 - Cys138) of the substrate, oxidized thioredoxin. Reduced thioredoxin is a reductant for ribonucleotide reductase and an activator of T7 DNA polymerase.
