Structural highlights

4gct is a 6 chain structure with sequence from Vibrio cholerae O1 biovar El Tor str. N16961. Full crystallographic information is available from OCA. For a guided tour on the structure components use FirstGlance.
Method:X-ray diffraction, Resolution 2.45Å
Resources:FirstGlance, OCA, PDBe, RCSB, PDBsum, ProSAT

Function

SLMA_VIBCH Required for nucleoid occlusion (NO) phenomenon, which prevents Z-ring formation and cell division over the nucleoid. Acts as a DNA-associated cell division inhibitor that binds simultaneously chromosomal DNA and FtsZ, and disrupts the assembly of FtsZ polymers. SlmA-DNA-binding sequences (SBS) are dispersed on non-Ter regions of the chromosome, preventing FtsZ polymerization at these regions (By similarity).
