Function

BRCA1 and BRCA2 or breast cancer type 1 susceptibility protein are tumor suppressors which help repair damaged DNA. For more details see:

Mutations in BRAC1 and BRAC2 are associated with increased risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer and to a lesser extent with other cancers[1].

Structural highlights

The phosphopeptide binds at the interface between the BRCT1 and BRCT2 domains. These domains contain most of the mutations seen in BRCA1[2]. Phosphoserine binding.
