Cytochrome c nitrite reductase or cytochrome c552 (ccNiR) catalyzes the reduction of nitrite to ammonia as one of the key steps in the nitrogen cycle where it participates in the anaerobic energy metabolism of dissimilatory nitrate ammonification[1].
