Function
Dehydroquinase (DHQD) catalyzes the conversion of 3-hydroquinate to 3-hydroshikimate. DHQD is part of the shikimate pathway by which bacteria synthesize the aromatic amino acids. There are 2 types of DHQD found in different organisms. They differ in their sequence and structure. [1]
Relevance
Inhibitors of DHQD are potential bacteriocides.[2]
