Step 8 of the Krebs cycle: Malate-Dehydrogenase

This final reaction closes the krebs cycle. here, L-malate is transformed into oxal acetate. The hydroxy group of L-malate (in yellow) is oxidized to an α-keto group and the released protons are picked up by NAD⁺, which then is reduced to NADH + H⁺.
