Function

Ribosomal protein S17 (RPS17) is one of the 21 proteins which belong to the 30S small subunit of the bacterial ribosome or the 30 proteins which belong to the 40S small subunit of the eukaryotic ribosome. It binds to the 5' end of 16S RRNA and may participate in the recognition of termination codons.

Disease

RPS17 mutations are present in patients with Diamond-Blackfan anemia[1].
